I'm trying to set up OpenLDAP Windows to use as a Microsoft Office Address book and trying to follow the example given but I am hitting issues at the very start.

I installed the software with all the defaults. I then checked to make sure that OpenLDAP was running in services.

I copied and pasted the entries off the userbooster example to use in officeperson.schema and saved the file. I used notepad and made sure that the filename was as required (i.e. no .txt on the end). The file went into c:\OpenLDAP\schema

I then edited slapd.conf (in c:\OpenLDAP) to add the relevant include command:

# BDB Backend configuration file
# See slapd.conf(5) for details on configuration options.
# This file should NOT be world readable.
ucdata-path ./ucdata
include ./schema/core.schema
include ./schema/cosine.schema
include ./schema/nis.schema
include ./schema/inetorgperson.schema
include ./schema/openldap.schema
include ./schema/dyngroup.schema
include ./schema/extension.schema
include ./schema/officeperson.schema

and then stop and restart the service. However, the service runs for about 10 seconds and then stops. What am I doing wrong? If I remove the entry from slapd.conf, the service continues to run so it is definitely something to do with officeperson.schema.

Any help is appreciated.

You need to run the slapd with debugging enabled and find out what the relevant error messages in the log are.
